Leicester comes second to last in national house price rise survey
The first UK cities house price index has placed Leicester second from last in a survey of annual house price rises.
Hometrack’s inaugural index revealed that London came top with an 18.1% increase, whilst Glasgow came bottom with just a 4.3% increase. Leicester came just ahead of Glasgow, with an increase of just 4.8% in the past year.
However local estate agents, such as Andrew Granger, have suggested that the local housing market is much stronger than this index implies. A partner at Andrew Granger said: “There are a lot of these surveys about and they can differ wildly…the experience we have in this local market is that growth has been higher than the figure quoted.”
It was noted that the villages around Market Harborough were amongst a number of areas that were performing particularly well.
