One in five homeowners extend instead of buying

Over 20% of homeowners noted that they will spend money on modernising and extending their home, instead of moving, a new study shows.

The study from the Federation of Master Builders showed that a third of homeowners will renovate or refurbish within the next three years, with many investing in new kitchens, bathrooms, home extensions, loft conversions and conservatories.

Half of homeowners believe that their property would need urgent modernisation in order to increase its value, whilst one in five felt that extending was their only option, as they could not afford to take the next step on the property ladder.
